VOLUNTEER - Seeking Sunday School Teachers!

When asked about people who made a difference in their life, many people quickly remember a faithful Sunday School teacher. Helping children explore their faith is fun, important, and rewarding. It is also easier than you might think!

We are especially excited to introduce the new SPARK Sunday School Curriculum for the 2009 -2010 year. It ia a Lutheran curiculum that helps kids learn about their faith in different ways. It is also VERY user-friendly and supportive for volunteer teachers, asking the question "What if teachers were better prepared in less time?"

You can volunteer today to be a Sunday School teacher!

Register Now for Sunday School - Begins September 13

A very special new Sunday School year is just around the corner! Time to register is now! There is no fee to register, and your child can join in at any time, but signing up now will assure that we will be best prepared to offer every child a great year of faith education! Please download and complete this emergency info form, and bring to Sunday School or email to the church office.



We are very excited to introduce the new SPARK Sunday School Curriculum for the 2009 -2010 year. It ia a Lutheran curiculum that helps kids learn about their faith in different ways. Each child will receive a new age-appropriate SPARK Bible to keep and bring to Sunday School. Kids open their Bibles and engage with God's Word each and every week. Each lesson is structured around a clear lesson and focus statement. All kids explore the same Bible story in an age-appropriate way. The 4th & 5th grade class will be following the same lessons used in our Sunday worship services.



Rally Day is September 13th. The theme this year is TEMPLE ROCKS! All are welcome to gather in the Cafe Bistraud beginning at 9:30am to hear about the SPARK curiculum, to meet the teachers, enjoy some snacks, and...if you really want Temple to ROCK...challenge each other to a game of Guitar Hero!



Regular Sunday School classes begin the following Sunday (September 20th) at a new time: 9:30am. Families are also encouraged to attend a worship service together (Traditional worship is now at 8:30 and Contemporary worship is now at 10:30).

Sunday School Project Raises $2,500 to fight hunger

The children's Sunday School at Temple Lutheran Church raised a total of $2,525,50 during December & January through the "God's Global Barnyard" project. The children promoted a special offering during the holiday season to sponsor the purchase of animals such as cows, pigs, turkeys, chicks and fish farms that will be distributed around the world in order to break the cycle of hunger and extreme poverty. The "God's Global Barnyard" project was done in partnership with the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. A special "thank you" to the children who invited and challenged us to respond and the teachers that guided them and helped them learn about serving others.

Temple Lutheran Had A Barn...E - I - E - I - OOOO!!

Help us fill up God’s Global barnyard with chicks and pigs and goats and fish and turkeys and cows!

The children's Sunday School is launcing a Service Project in support of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal that will purchase animals in order to give them as gifts that will help break the cycle of poverty and hunger in the world. Gifts of animals not only provide a source of food, but can help create a source of income for a family or community oppressed by extreme poverty. The Sunday school project runs from November 23, 2008 to January 18, 2009.

10:00am - Guest Speaker in Cafe Bistraud
Sue Gibbons from the West Philadelphia Alliance for Children will speak about the struggles and realities of the education system in our region and how people of faith are responding.

11:00am - Traditional Worship

2pm - 5pm ITALIAN FESTIVAL with music by KENANIAH
This free event with plenty of Italian food will be held from 2-5 pm at Upland Park. Everyone is invited. Sponsored by Thrivent. The event will be held rain or shine in and air-conditioned pavillion. There will be games and activities for children and a variety of delicious Italian dishes. Each family is asked to bring their own beverages and a dessert to share. Music will be provided by praise bands including Temple Lutheran's Kenaniah!

Upland Park is located on Sixth Street, between Powell Rd. and Patton Ave. in Upland Borough.Directions: Route 352 to Brookhaven Road. Proceed south on Brookhaven Road (which becomes 6th St.) for approximately two miles. The entrance is the first driveway after the 7-11 store on the right.

September 7 will also mark our return to two worship services on Sunday mornings. Contemporary worship (with music by KENANIAH) begins at 8:45am and the Traditional Service begins at 11:00.

Sunday School Planning Meeting - August 6, 7PM

There will be a Sunday School meeting on Wednesday August 6 at 7 pm in the conference room.

The goal for this meeting is to finalize the teacher schedule, decide on the curriculum for the younger classes, have Rachel fill everyone in on the exciting curriculum for the older kids, and plan for Rally day on September 7. Please come with ideas !

Interested teachers should contact Wendy Long and let her know when you are available for teaching. Teachers are expected to be needed for only one of the three terms during the upcoming year. Subsititute and assistants teachers are also needed and welcome.
