What if many have carried on a religion that somewhere along the way missed rich and radical treasures hidden in the essential message of Jesus?
During the seasons of Lent & Easter, all are encouraged to participate in Spirtual Formation through a book discussion of The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian D. McLaren.
When Brian McLaren began offering an alternative vision of Christian faith and life, he ignited a firestorm of praise and condemnation that continues to spread across the religious landscape. To some, McLaren is a dangerous rebel without a doctrinally-correct cause. To others, though, Brian is a fresh voice, a welcome antidote to the staleness, superficiality and negativity of the religious status quo. McLaren invites you to discover afresh the transforming message of Jesus--an open invitation to radical change, and enlightening revelation that exposes sham and ignites hope, an epic story that is good news for everyone, whatever their gender, race, class, politics or religion.
Discussion sessions will be held weekly from March 1st - May 20th. There will be three times to choose from each week:
Sundays, 10am in the Cafe Bistraud
Tuesdays, noon in the parlor (bring a bag lunch)
Wednesdays, 7pm in the Cafe Bistraud UPDATE: WEDNESDAY SESSIONS CANCELLED
While full participation is encouraged, participants can feel welcome to join in at any time as your schedule allows. Each session will be centered around open discussion.
A limited supply of The Secret Message of Jesus is available from Temple Lutheran Church (suggested donation: $5). Copies may also be available from any major bookseller and some local libraries. (Thomas Nelson, 2006 - ISBN-13:978-0-8499-1892-6, List Price $15)
