Souper Bowl of Caring Raises $561 for Local Hunger Program

Temple Lutheran Church hosted a Souper Bowl of Caring event on February 1 to raise money for local hunger programs at the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County. A total of $561 was raised during a soup luncheon that included a voluntary offering. Included in this total is a $100 matching contribution from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The event was festive and crowded with a variety of homemeade soups and desserts provided by members of Temple Lutheran Church. The offering was collected in two soup pots that reflected the two teams that were to play later that day in Super Bowl XLIII. The offering, which was in favor of the Pittsburgh Steelers, sucessfully predicted the winner of the NFL Championship, and marked a 2-0 record since introduced in 2008.

The event was sucessfully coordinated by Temple Lutheran Church members David and Gail Nichols.

The Life Center of Eastern Delaware County operates a daily feeding program where homeless residents and needy individuals and families within the community receive a hot dinner 365 days a year. Temple Lutheran Church provides all food and volunteers needed for the feeding program six times duing the year.
